I have been a teacher for about 25 years and with my children leaving home, I decided that I needed a change of career. Most of my teaching appointments were in Central Queensland where the hot climate in summer was often unbearable and helped me in making my decision.

I am often frustrated because I am unable to buy the things I want. Attractive cotton underwear was one of those things. So…after looking at lots of options, I decided this was the one thing I really wanted to do something about.

Getting 100% cotton underwear has been quite difficult, even from the manufacturers. I have managed to obtain underwear that has the highest percentage of cotton possible. (The lace is 40% synthetic, but this is very difficult to avoid.) Bras have to be padded as 100% cotton is not suitable for the whole bra. This compromise has been difficult for me to accept, but at least the important parts are 100% cotton – briefs and lining of bras.

I would like to expand the range to include other cotton products – men's underwear, socks, maybe, sheets and, depending on demand, other 100% cotton products. I want to supply products that other people would like too. If you require a product, please fill in the survey so I can help out.

Photo Shoot
Everyday women wear cotton underwear, so I decided that I would use everyday women with great smiles for the photos for my website. I also wanted to ‘shop local’ as much as possible and I was surprised that everything could be achieved at Bargara. However, I did find some of the locals shy about showing their underwear!

The location was also important – a place where everyone goes. A friend, Rami, owned a mechanic's workshop and I thought that would be a great place to do the shoot. And, it was local!

My next question was, “Who will I use for models?“ Two of my friends, Coralie and Tanya, volunteered and I snapped them up!! I guess I did some sort of sales pitch on them. Margie had a holiday house next-door to a friend and decided to model, although it did take some hard talking. I decided that I would model too, despite my reservations. Still needing one more model, I asked the local backpacker hostel for a girl with a nice smile. Louise, from England, surpassed my expectations. Our ages are 26, 41, 47, 49 and 58. Can you work out our ages? There are some surprises!

The day before the shoot, Tanya did spray tans for us. On the day of the shoot, our makeup artists, Meghan and Keryn, began our makeup at 5am. We were on location at 6am and Rhondda, our photographer, made us relax and feel comfortable very quickly. Thank you to each of these girls for making us look great. The photos are fantastic as you can see.

The models in these photos are everyday women with great smiles, most have families and love life. This was a great experience for all of us – one to tell the grandchildren about!
